Egypt

Beheira governorate: An H5N1 outbreak in poultry was reported in Kafr El Dawar district, Ezbet El Kadesia village; the outbreak was massively spread among the majority of households in the village (May 4).

Gharbia governorate: An H5N1 outbreak in poultry was reported in Samanoud district, Mahalet Zeyad vollage (May 2).

Helwan governorate: An H5N1 outbreak in poultry was reported in Helwan district, El Hoda village (May 5).

Luxor governorate: H5N1 outbreaks in poultry were reported in Luxor district, El Zinia Kebly village (May 3 & 4).

Indonesia

Indonesia: Java Island

Central Java

  • Karanganyar regency: An H5N1 outbreak in birds was reported in Waru village, Kebakkramat subdistrict (May 19).
  • Klaten regency: A 13yo boy from Bometen hamlet, Ngandong village in Gantiwarno subdistrict was hospitalized as a suspected H5N1 patient; birds in the patient’s village were confirmed positive for H5N1 (May 28). Initial tests were negative for H5N1; further test results are pending (May 29).

East Java

  • Malang: A 45F was confirmed positive for H5N1 after developing symptoms on Feb. 22; she recovered (reported May 5 and WHO update).
  • Pamekasan regency:  Sudden chicken deaths (with symptoms of bird flu) were reported in Panglemah village in Proppo subdistrict (May 27).

Indonesia: Sumatra Islands

Jambi

  • Merangin regency: H5N1 was identified in samples taken from ducks (May 11).

Israel

Palestinian Authority: An H5N1 outbreak in poultry was reported in the Bal’a village near Tulkarem (May 14).

Southern district: An H5N1 outbreak was reported in two emus in Kibbutz Ein Gedi’s menagerie (May 6).

Korea, Rep. of

South Jeolla province: Two outbreaks of low-pathogenic H7N7 were reported on farms in Wolya-myeon in Hampyeong-gun and in Bongsan-myeon in Damyang-gun (OIE report).

Laos

Vientiane Capital: An H5N1 outbreak in chickens was reported on the Latkhouay Farm in Xaythany (May 14 and OIE report).

Mongolia

S?khbaatar province: An H5N1 outbreak was reported in wild whooper swans and greylag geese in Ganga Lake, Dariganga soum (May 10 and OIE report).

Netherlands

North Brabant province:  An outbreak of low-pathogenic H7 was reported on a poultry farm in Deurne (May 17 and OIE report).

Vietnam

Thai Nguyen province: An H5N1 outbreak was reported in poultry (May 10).
